For the first time in Austin GMC history, we had a “snow” day. My family and I had to get creative to offer a worship service that would try to offer some normalcy in this bizarre weather. Thank God for technology. We joined from home with thousands of other believers around the world worshipping our Lord and Master Jesus Christ. If you missed service this morning, you can watch it here:
Today, we learned about the wonderful name Adonai. This is not really a name of God but rather a title for him. Abram was the first person to call God by this title when he called him “Adonai Yahweh” (Lord God) in Genesis 15:2. By Abram calling upon God in this way, it demonstrated that Abram had a servant/Master relationship with God.
The title “Lord” should not be used casually by the believer. When we call God “Lord”, we are verbally acknowledging the sovereignty of God and must therefore submit to his lordship and authority over our lives. We must remember that he is the Potter and we are the clay. He is the Master and we are his servants. He is the Leader and we are his followers. This wonderful name is a sobering, humbling title of honor we give to Jesus Christ as disciples.
This week, I challenge you to write the name Adonai somewhere you will see it (mirror, refrigerator, etc.). Know that when you pray “Dear Lord”, you are declaring the lordship of Jesus over your life. Let Jesus take the helm. Let him drive. Get in the backseat so you are not even tempted to take the wheel back. Submit to him and trust in his lordship.
Join me in praying this prayer in the week to come:
Adonai, you are the Lord of my life. Like the clay submitting to the potter, have your own way with me. You are sovereign over my life. I trust and follow you. Amen.
Blessings,
