His Name is Wonderful - El Roi

It was great to worship together in person in better weather and celebrate the Lord’s Table. Today, we learned about the wonderful name El Roi. This name was only used once in scripture (Genesis 16:13). It’s the only name given to God by a human. It was even given to God by an “invisible” person. Hagar was pagan, female, enslaved, and the lowest of society. But God saw her so she gave him the name “El Roi”- the God who sees me.
Many people in this world feel unseen. From the homeless person under a bridge, to the teenage walking the hallway, to the mother washing dishes alone at the sink, to the celebrity who puts on a mask for their career. Maybe you feel unseen. Please know that you are heard, seen, and loved by God. He takes notice of the sparrow and the lilies of the field. He took notice of a slave girl in the desert. El Roi sees you and meets you where you are.
This week, I challenge you to write the name El Roi somewhere you will see it (mirror, refrigerator, etc.). Mediate on this glorious fact: God see me. Let this encourage you this week.
Join me in praying this prayer in the week to come:
El Roi, you are the God who sees me. You meet me at the point of my need. You know my thoughts and fears. Yet I have more value than the sparrows. Thank you for seeing me. Amen.
Blessings,
