It was a wonderful week of ministry at Austin Global Methodist Church with Thursday Night Refuge Worship with the Concordia University students and another worshipful Sunday with our new worship leader, Sebastian Thomas and his wife Shanon.
This Sunday, a difficult passage of Scripture was tackled from Matthew 2. Joseph, Mary, and Jesus fled to Egypt, countless innocent lives were lost because of evil King Herod, God called his Son “out of Egypt”, and back to Israel proving that he was the better Moses, the better King, and the Savior of the World. The challenge was to “come out of Egypt” ourselves. We must fix our eyes on Jesus and leave our sin and doubts behind us.
This week we also contemplated Question #2 of the Global Methodist Church Catechism: “Who is God?” Our answer at Austin Global Methodist Church is: “God is the one true, holy, and living God, the eternal Spirit, the Holy Trinity.” The belief in the holy, eternal, and triune nature of God is essential to our beliefs at this church.
Why do we believe this about God? The whole of Scripture demonstrates that he is true, holy, living, eternal, and triune. This week, I encourage you to make the following verses a part of your devotional life to increase your knowledge of the nature of God: Deuteronomy 6:4, Leviticus 19:2, Jeremiah 10:10, Matthew 28:19, John 17:3, and Hebrews 9:14. Take a passage a day and meditate on who God is.
Next Sunday, we will begin a new sermon series called, “Follow the Lamb”. It will demonstrate the purpose of Christ’s coming from Genesis to John to Revelation! I have worked on this sermon series for about five years and am very excited to share it with you all. Read Genesis 1-3 in preparation for next Sunday’s Sermon “And He Clothed Them”.
May your week be blessed. May you know that God is good. And may you share the goodness of God with others.
Blessings,
Rev. Lauren Green Yates, MDiv.
