The Better Man: Man of Miracles

Today was the 4th Sunday of Lent. We’re continuing our parallel journey with Moses and Jesus in the sermon series, “The Better Man”. Today, we saw miracles in the desert. Moses provided the people with manna in the wilderness, literally “whatchamacallit” bread from heaven. The people ate it but had to collect it each day so it wouldn’t waste. It was temporary satisfaction. But Jesus provided the people with a miraculous multiplication of bread and fish. He explained that what the people were really hungry for wasn’t bread but the Bread of Life. Jesus is the eternal Bread from heaven. When people believe in him and partake of him, they will have true satisfaction and everlasting life.

This week, contemplate this question: am I hungry for God? Or am I so full of the world, sin, self, entertainment, food, etc. that I feel like what I’m consuming is good enough? Jesus promises that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled. If you’re looking for satisfaction, you will find it in Jesus Christ.

Let us pray the Prayer of Saint Ephrem as we continue on in this sacred season: O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust of power, and idle talk. But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience, and love to Thy servant. Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own transgressions, and not to judge my brother, for blessed art Thou, unto ages of ages. Amen.
