The Better Man- Two Angry Men

Today, we continued our sermon series, “The Better Man”. It’s a parallel journey between the life of Moses and the life of Jesus. Today, we learned how differently Moses and Jesus handled anger. Anger HAD Moses but Jesus had anger. Moses was consumed by the feeling of anger. It led him to sin and it kept him out of the Promised Land when he hit the rock twice instead of speaking to it like God had said. Jesus had moments of anger but his anger was always righteous. Yes, he flipped the tables, dumped out bags of money, and chased people out of the temple with whips. But Jesus’ anger led to him addressing sin. It did not cause him to sin.

I posed this question this morning: does anger have me? Consider your own life. Are you consumed with thoughts of anger? Have you allowed it to take the place of the Holy Spirit at the control center of your life? If so, you can pray to God to give you the strength to handle angry moments in a Christ-like way and “Be angry and sin not” (Ephesians 4:26).

The Lenten season is almost complete. Please mark on your calendar the special events for Holy Week taking place at Concordia University Black Box Theater. Hope to see you all there! Invite your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and family.

Let us continue to pray the Prayer of Saint Ephrem: O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust of power, and idle talk. But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience, and love to Thy servant. Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own transgressions, and not to judge my brother, for blessed art Thou, unto ages of ages. Amen.
