Partners in Hope

This Sunday, we had a special guest preacher, Rev. B.J. Rogers, from Partners in Hope. He encouraged our mission-minded congregation to live out the sacraments and take on the servant mindset of Jesus. Pastor Emeritus, Rev. Tom Deviney, helped lead the service and communion in Rev. Lauren’s absence. It was strange for Pastor Lauren to not be in service but we are blessed to have technology available to watch from home in travel and sickness.

This week we also meditated on question #9 of the Global Methodist Church Catechism: “What is the Son’s role in creation?” Our answer at Austin Global Methodist Church is: “Through him all things were made.” If you’d like to learn more about Jesus as Creator, study John 1:3, I Corinthians 8:6, Colossians 1:16-17, and Hebrews 1:2 in your personal devotions.

The Lenten season begins this Wednesday. Join us at Concordia University Chapel at 6pm as we have a special Ash Wednesday service. During Lent, we will be reading through the Book of John together and asking, “What would I give up and what would I take on for a closer walk with Jesus?”

If our mission is to make disciples of Jesus, we have to make sure that we are his disciples first. Have we counted the cost of what it means to follow in Jesus’ footsteps? May the Lord find us faithful disciples.

Blessings,

Rev. Lauren Green Yates, MDiv.
