Strangely Warmed

Aldersgate Sunday
This week we celebrated Aldersgate Sunday, the day the Methodist Church remembers when John Wesley’s heart was strangely warmed. We compared John Wesley to the two disciples on the Road to Emmaus, whose hearts burned within them when Jesus shared the Scriptures with them. The challenge this week was to consider: 1) Has my heart been strangely warmed by Jesus or am I living by works? 2) Did I turn when my heart burned within me? 3) What passage from the Living Word makes me want to go and tell that Jesus is alive?
We also considered question number 20 of the Global Methodist Church Catechism: “Do you believe in the Holy Spirit?” Our answer at Austin Global Methodist Church is: “Yes, I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life.” If you would like to learn more about this, study Isaiah 11:2, 61:1-2, II Corinthians 3:17-18, John 6:63, Romans 8:11, and Galatians 6:8 in your personal devotions. At Austin GMC, we welcome and celebrate the presence of the Holy Spirit in our hearts and in our church.
For the next two weeks, I will be bringing the Wall Shakers Prayer Workshop to Bulgaria. During this time, Pastor Ricky Yates and Rev. Tom Deviney will be bringing the word. Please pray for the MidTexas representatives going to Bulgaria for the workshops and the Bulgarian Annual Conference. We are excited to learn, share, and fellowship with our sister churches, especially Pastor Krasimir at Burgas Methodist Church.
We are a global church. We take the commission seriously to take the Living Word into the whole world. Whether in Austin, the US, or Bulgaria, we want hearts to be strangely warmed with the love of Jesus. Go forth and be bold witnesses!
Blessings,
